Scared of Us

about

I don't typically write love songs but this is a song about a 20 year love affair that has never actually come to fruition.

lyrics

You weigh on things that may never happen
You’re entitled to your opinion when you’re making your decisions
Instead of playing games with chances
Feel the heat in my gaze and my glances. Listen to what this man says.
Two times, why? I gave you so much mind
I was trying to hope us into focus, insist on our existence
Yet, here we sit now, dangling our feet down
Over the precipice of our deliverance
And you are hesitating, why are we waiting?

Why are you playing the same old song?
You’re there and then you’re gone

Am I too much or too little? I feel so extreme
But, you’re sticking me in the middle
Where it’s cold, unseen, for a tree grown green like me
How dare you face this tide of my determination
You’ll be baptized when you capsize
I’ll be fantasizing until you realize it
I wanna give you all, not just a fraction
There’s geometry in our attraction
Mathemagical action
It’s now or never I’m not trying to be clever
But, I need you now. If you could just show me how.
Maybe write it down? Shout it out loud while

You’re singing a brand new song
There’s no way this is wrong
Here’s the truth. I’m dying to worship you.

Sure I’m a little sore. I’ve always wanted more
But all I get are goodbyes. There’s something and then it dies
Then you run away and hide time after time after time
That’s the worst of it all, to be denied
No matter how hard i’ve tried
Just left with my mind and all the “what ifs” inside

I need to define
The wrong that you wrought on us both
Belongs in the were that we wrote
As long as we mend what you broke
I know we can make this thing so

Scared of us, I don’t know why?
I’m just a man who wants to treat you right, amplify your life
Love is truly for two sides. If you show me yours
I’ll give you mine.

As long as we mend what you broke
Tear up the pages we wrote
Say no to the knowns that we know
Let go the load so we float

about

Doug Hawk Easton, Pennsylvania

This is intelligent, inspiring, grooving music that not only makes you think but move, as well. Lyrically topical with a positive message. Comparisons to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai and Steely Dan are accurate but in a purely derivative sense. Hawk has emphatically created his own unique sound. ... more
